About

Shan Club

Tai Chi experiences that bring together slow movement, breath and awareness. Born in Istanbul; growing through events at a variety of venues, a YouTube series, original music and objects of its own.

The story

Shan Club began as an idea in Duygu Sancaklı Dandin's mind: a regular place to slow down in a city that keeps speeding up. Meeting Esat Ataç's 21 years of Wudang practice turned the idea into a session, and the session into a community. More than 30 people came to the first gathering at The Grand Tarabya on 20 June 2026; the weekly programme began that day.

“Shan” (山) means mountain. The teaching was born in the mountains, outdoors; Esat Ataç trained at Wudang Shan. The name speaks of being on a mountain: a path, a journey, a staircase — work that stretches your capacity but takes you somewhere, a summit. It also echoes the Turkish “şan”, glory. The enso in our logo is an unfinished circle: the breath redrawn in every session.
